Growing concerns about a possible war in Europe triggered a 200% increase in demand for private bunker construction in Spain, Euronews reported.

Currently, the country has more than 400 private shelters and only four public nuclear bunkers, most of them located in Madrid. This scarce public infrastructure is generating a new wave of interest in personal protection solutions.
A Euronews journalist visited one of these private facilities, built by a Spanish citizen who fears an armed conflict on the continent. The shelter has reinforced walls, an air and water filtration system, backup power, impact-resistant doors and a thousand liters of stored water for emergencies.
The average cost of a bunker in Spain is around 150,000 euros, although some can exceed 350,000. For many Spaniards, this type of structure is still a luxury, so they choose to adapt basements or cellars as safe spaces, storing food and water on their own.
In this context, the Spanish government is already working on a National Civil Protection Plan that will include protocols for dealing with military threats.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the construction of bunkers has increased across Europe. Germany, France and the Baltic countries are currently the best prepared to deal with war scenarios, according to the media outlet.
