Stuntmen to get their own Oscar: Academy adds a new category

The Hollywood Academy announced that a new statuette dedicated to the work of stuntmen and stuntwomen will be awarded at the 100th edition of the Oscars. It is the first time in history that these professionals, who put their bodies (and sometimes their lives) into spectacular scenes, will receive the highest recognition in cinema.

Since the earliest days of cinema, stunt work has been a fundamental part of film production. We are proud to highlight their talent

said Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy, and Janet Yang, its president.

Currently, more than 100 professionals in the field are part of the Academy’s Technical and Production Department. They will be potential nominees for their work in films to be released in 2027. Voting rules, criteria and details of the 100th ceremony will be announced later in the year.

The decision is not only a symbolic gesture: it also reconfigures the recognition map within the industry, where more and more technical profiles are gaining visibility and prominence.

In 2025, the film that won the most awards was Anora, a story about a stripper and the son of a Russian oligarch. Its director, Sean Baker, received Oscars for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
